DEATH FOR A DOLL

EDDIE CALLAO came up the hard way, from the filth of a Chicago back street. He had never known what it was to be loved or wanted by anybody. He knew no other life than the life of the slums. Living in a foul, evil-smelling tenement his play-ground had been the streets and the gutters. Kicked around all his life he had learned that the only way to take care of yourself was to fight. His education, informal at best, was picked up in the poolrooms, brothels, back alleys and behind a gun. Work was for suckers! Eddie wouldn’t work, but he wanted money and got it.
Then, into his life came a dame of his own breed- hard, tough and callous. She thought she knew what she wanted, and made up her mind that with Callao she would get everything. The only trouble was she didn’t know him half as well as she thought she did.
Spike Morelli proves once again that he is tops in gangster fiction, with a story that is tough, brutal and packed full of action.
