Heller’s Leap is a 1979 science fiction novel by Ian Wallace. The book combines elements of a murder mystery with scientific concepts, such as a black hole and cosmic travel. It is the seventh book in Wallace’s Croyd series, though it was published under the title Death of a She-Planet in some editions. The interstellar signal: The story begins with a distress signal from a star system named Iola. This system is cut off from the rest of the galaxy by a nearby black hole, and the only way to reach it is by passing through a cosmic “warp”. A dangerous leap: Star-pilot Klaus Heller answers the distress call and makes the dangerous journey through the black hole, using a special spacesuit.
