THE NURSE KNEW WHAT TO DO

Laura woke up suddenly, free at last from the night- mare that had held her so long. She was in a bed, not a bunk, a real bed. And the bed was in a room, not a cell. “Where am I?”
The face above her smiled. It was a beautiful face, with large brown eyes. “You’re in the hospital. Don’t you remember? Mavis-the nurse Loura reached up and touched her face. She felt as warmth under her fingertips. “What happened?”
Mavis leaned forward and pressed both her hands against Laura’s cheeks. “You’ve been sick … after heard about Tommy, you Tommy … Tommy was dead … dead. Laura felt Mavis’ warm hands gently caressing her forehead, her cheeks, her neck. “Don’t think about it,” Mavis said, sitting on the bed, pressing against Laura.
Loura could feel the weight and the warmth of the girl beside her. She wanted to bring it down end crush herself with it. It had been so long since she had been in another’s arms, felt another loving body .. . She reached up and embraced the nurse.
Mavis kissed her full on the lips. Laura felt her probing tongue. Tommy used to kiss her like that. She felt Mavis’ hand reach for her under the cover. Then the sheets were being pulled away and she realized, for the first time, that she was naked. “Love me!” Laura cried. “Love me!”
