Johnny Staccato is a 1960 novel by “Frank Boyd,” a pseudonym for the prolific hardboiled pulp writer Frank Kane. The book is a tie-in for the 1959-1960 television series of the same name, which starred John Cassavetes as the jazz pianist and private detective Johnny Staccato.
The novel, like the TV show it’s based on, features a cool, jazz-loving private eye in Greenwich Village who gets tangled up in the seedy underworld of New York City. In the story, Johnny is drawn into a murder investigation when an ex-girlfriend, a sultry singer named Shelly Carroll, finds a prominent disc jockey dead in a hotel room.
