The story centers on Damian Carey, a young woman who inherits a large Connecticut estate called Arroways from her wealthy and fearsome grandmother. The inheritance comes as a surprise to Damian, whose mother was disowned by the family. Soon after her arrival, the estate becomes the scene of a murder.
