The story follows Murray Douglas, an actor who has recently overcome alcoholism and is struggling to restart his career. His new job is with an avant-garde play where the cast is meant to improvise the script during rehearsals, which take place in an isolated country house.Â
However, the director intentionally preys on the actors’ addictions and weaknesses. As the production becomes more chaotic and self-destructive, it is revealed that the playwright is manipulating the cast with futuristic “sleep-learning” technology for the enjoyment of decadent time travelers.
