The story is set on Earth’s distant future supercontinent, Gonwonlane, where a handful of god-like beings rule the human population using powers derived from mass worship. Ptath, the most powerful of these gods, chose to journey back in time and live as a mortal to reconnect with his humanity. In his absence, one of his goddess-wives, Ineznia, imprisons his other wife, L’onee, and attempts to usurp his power. Ineznia pulls Ptath back to his immortal body prematurely, but with the mind of his most recent, just-deceased incarnation: a World War II tank commander named Peter Holroyd. Without his memory or his full divine powers, which are fueled by the prayers of women, Ptath/Holroyd must navigate a world of political intrigue and manipulation. He works to rescue L’onee and battle the villainous Ineznia, all while piecing together his true identity and immense abilities.
