Moscow is a historical novel detailing the 1941 Battle of Moscow. As a German living in exile in the Soviet Union during the war, Plievier was able to conduct research for his novels by interviewing German prisoners of war and accessing Red Army resources.Â
The book is structured into three sections:Â
- Part one:Â Covers the German perspective of the invasion of Russia, including the German army’s meticulous planning.
- Part two:Â Details the disorganization of the Soviet forces after the initial surprise attack.
- Part three:Â Brings the two perspectives together, highlighting the German army’s ill-preparedness for the harsh winter and the resilience of the Soviet people
