The Lucifer Comet is a 1980 science fiction novel by Ian Wallace, the pen name of author John Wallace Pritchard. The story is the eighth book in the Croyd Spacetime Maneuvres series. It is known for its blend of high interstellar adventure with elements of religious allegory.

The plot begins when scientists discover a vast comet traveling between the stars. Within its icy core, two figures are frozen in a state of eternal combat.
The figures: One is identified as a “Prometheus figure”—a human-like character. The other is Lucifer, the Devil, with bat wings, horns, and other traditional demonic features.
A terrifying enigma: The two beings are defrosted. The “Prometheus” is indeed a bringer of fire, but Lucifer is discovered to be the legendary “Old Enemy” in the flesh, possessing powers that baffle the advanced science of the future.
Themes: The story explores the intersection of the distant past with the future, questioning human values that have existed since the beginning of time. It presents a terrifying social and theological mystery for the characters to solve.

Ian Wallace (1912–1998): Wallace was the pseudonym for American science fiction author John Wallace Pritchard.
Other works: He was also known for the St. Cyr Interplanetary Detective Mysteries series, which featured an intergalactic detective named Claudine St. Cyr.
